
This is UNIT 5 in our LEVEL 1 online ESL curriculum, designed for use with young, beginner-level students who have basic but limited knowledge of English. The unit introduces the following:
- Vocabulary: Farmers’ Market (corn, lettuce, broccoli, garlic, onion(s), cucumber(s), carrot(s), pepper(s), tomato(es), seed, plant)
- Sentence Patterns: What do you want? / I want some (corn). / Do you want some (corn?) / Yes, I do. / No, I don’t. / What do you have? / I have (broccoli).
- Phonics: Short /u/ (umbrella, upset, bus, rug)
- Colors: Black, White
- Numbers: 11, 12 (eleven, twelve)
- Shapes Review: Circle, Square, Triangle
There are ten 25-minute lessons in this unit that introduce the target vocabulary and reinforce it through short stories and fun interactive activities. There is also a short homework assignment at the end of each lesson to reinforce the concepts taught.
